Rio de Janeiro becomes Hatch Center of Excellence for small hydro engineering
July 09, 2012
MEK Engenharia, one of Brazil’s leading hydropower engineering firms, joined the Hatch organization in March, enhancing Hatch’s ability to deliver high-quality hydropower engineering services, not only to Brazil’s renewable power industry, but also to our clients located outside of Brazil.
Based in Rio de Janeiro, MEK brings approximately 120 hydropower professionals into the Hatch organization. In addition to its work on larger hydro projects, MEK has developed industry leading expertise in the design of cost-effective and efficient small hydropower projects. For more than 20 years, MEK has worked with some of Brazil’s leading power companies, and has completed the conceptual and detailed design of more than 50 small hydropower stations in the 10-MW to 30-MW range.
Their design has become a standard for small hydro in Brazil, with innovative engineering solutions that are well adapted to the small hydropower industry. In order to leverage the skills, experience and methods, our Rio de Janeiro office will now become Hatch’s Center of Excellence for the engineering of small hydropower projects.
The combination of Hatch’s 85-plus years of hydropower experience—the heart of our power business—with the experience and expertise of the Rio de Janeiro office, will help us deliver a comprehensive consulting, engineering and design service to the small hydropower industry.
